Assistant Professor at the Department of Cultural Sociology at the University of Lodz. Member of the Committee for Migration Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He specializes in qualitative research, with particular emphasis on the sociology of higher education and migration studies. In recent years, he has mainly been involved in the analysis of different varieties of minority status in Polish universities and research institutions (including ethnic and class issues). In the past, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Cambridge, the University of New Mexico and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He has published in, among others, Research in Higher Education, Higher Education Policy, Globalisation, Societies and Education, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Advances in Life Course Research.

dr Małgorzata Łukianow

Assistant professor at the Department of Cultural Sociology at the University of Lodz and collaborates with the Center for Research on Social Memory at the University of Warsaw. Previously, she worked at the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Warsaw, at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and at the Chemnitz University of Technology. In 2024, she was a Widzinski Senior Fellow at the University of Michigan. Her articles have been published in the journals “Memory Studies”, “European Societies” and “Studia Socjologiczne”. Since 2021, she has been the co-chair of the Polish Regional Group of the Memory Studies Association.

Graduated from University of the Arts London, École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) and the College of Europe. PhD student in sociology at the School of Social Sciences (Institute of Philosophy and Sociology) of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Affiliated with the Centre de civilisation française, the Centre for Figurative Studies and the Department of the History of Social Thought at the University of Warsaw. Winner of the Dianne Widzinski Visiting Fellowship at the University of Michigan, the Richard Pipes Scholarship, the Bourse du Gouvernement français and a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Was a visiting researcher at the Centre de recherche en science politique (CReSPo) at the Université Saint-Louis – Brussels. Currently working on a dissertation using figurative approaches to study nationalism in post-transformation Poland using school communities as an example.

mgr Katarzyna Krakowska

Katarzyna Krakowska is a sociologist, a graduate of Collegium Civitas in Warsaw and a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences of the University of Lodz. In 2024, she received the Zygmunt Bauman Award granted by the Polish Sociological Association for her book A Flammable Society: Practices of Helping War Refugees from Ukraine in Poland in 2022, written together with Katarzyna Kalinowska, Izabella Bukraba-Rylska, Paweł Kuczyński and Marta Sałkowska.
Her research interests include the experiences of women in migration movements, the social herstory of Central and Eastern Europe and the social consequences of the war in Ukraine. She is preparing a doctoral dissertation devoted to the issues of identity and language in the biographical narratives of Ukrainian refugee women over 60 years of age in Poland.
